Gish is the debut studio album by the band, released on May 28, 1991 through Caroline Records. It was produced by the influential producer Butch Vig, known for shaping the early 90s alternative rock sound, and recorded from 1990 to 1991. The album blends alternative rock and grunge with psychedelic and shoegaze textures, marked by heavy, fuzzy guitar riffs, melodic layering, metal-leaning solos, and Corgan’s softer, ethereal vocal style compared to their later work. Key tracks include I Am One, Rhinoceros, Siva, and Tristessa.
