Hector Lavoe - Comedia
Comedia is the third solo album by Puerto Rican salsa legend Héctor Lavoe, released in 1978 on Fania Records and produced by Willie Colón. It marked a big return for Lavoe, featuring his now-signature song “El Cantante,” written by Rubén Blades, which many consider his most emblematic track.
The album spans seven tracks, blending powerful salsa with elements of other Afro-Caribbean rhythms, bolero, plena, and bomba. Some standout songs beside El Cantante are Bandolera (with an exquisite piano solo), Songoro Cosongo, La Verdad, and the emotionally resonant ¿Por Qué Te Conocí?
Lavoe’s delivery on Comedia mixes lyrical introspection, street‐wise grit, and raw emotion. The arrangements—thanks to Colón and collaborators like Luis “Perico” Ortiz, José Febles, etc.—are rich with brass, percussion, strings, and layered voices; the production balances grand orchestral touches (especially on “El Cantante”) with hardened salsa roots.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR RECORDS
Always handle your vinyl by its edges and label, avoiding fingerprints on the grooves. Before and after each play, gently clean the surface with a carbon-fiber anti-static brush or a dedicated record-cleaning solution to remove dust and debris. Store records upright in their sleeves, away from heat, humidity, and direct sunlight to preserve sound quality and prevent warping..
